Dementia and Alzheimer’s are commonly thought of as being characterised by forgetfulness. There are currently more than 800,000 people in the UK with a diagnosis of Dementia. Almost three quarters of those affected are over the age of 65. It is important to understand that a diagnosis of dementia does not automatically mean that an older person will have to go into a care home. With the right care and support, many dementia sufferers are able to remain safely at home among their family and friends.

All forms of dementia are progressive conditions and are caused by changes within the brain. These changes result in a wide variety of symptoms such as loss of short term memory, mood changes, language and reasoning problems.
